Q: I sprained my ankle. Should I go to a physical therapist? A: This will depend on the severity of the ankle sprain, but we always recommend getting in touch with the office if you're thinking of coming in.
Did you know that physical therapists have to renew their license every one or two years? This ensures that they stay up-to-date with current trends and practices in their fields.
Q: Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist? A: In most places, you won't need one. Many PT's have "direct access", though your insurance may require a referral for coverage.
Physical therapy can be accompanied by a cortisone injection to lower inflammation and pain. Injections often allow for more movement and decreased pain.
To use your time in your PT appointment as effectively as possible, we recommend arriving early, wearing proper clothing, and having any questions you have ready.
Q: How long does physical therapy typically take? A: This will depend on the type of injury you have, the severity, and your activity levels. Age can also be a factor.
Q: I have a soft tissue tear. How long do those take to heal with a healthy dose of PT? A: Soft tissue will normally take a month and a half or longer to heal.
Q: I just suffered a rotator cuff tear. Does my insurance cover PT? A: Many insurance companies do, but often only when the therapy is deemed "medically necessary."
How many times a month should you see a PT? The more severe your ailment (and complex the treatment plan), the more often you'll need to see your PT.
