Specialties The Traffic Jam and Snug, established in 1965, is truly one of Detroit's hidden treasures. Known throughout Midtown for our in-house bakery, microbrewery, and dairy, our curiously intimate multi-level dining rooms, and an eclectic menu of made-from-scratch dishes, there is simply nothing quite like The Traffic Jam. We only use the best, freshest ingredients. We know this because we make everything ourselves. Each day, our bakery turns out a new "Bread of the Day", from authentic ethnic crusted rolls and vegetable... read more

TJ's blinking traffic light promises something for everyone. – In Short Innovations over the years have included a bakery, a brewery and a dairy, all on the premises. The crowd is as eclectic as the menu, with before- and after-theater business a mainstay. Menu items range from interesting versions of the old standards--mashed potatoes with pumpkin, meat loaf with curry, white cheddar macaroni and cheese--to what are becoming new standards, including an outstanding dried cherry/pecan salad and a goat cheese on greens with ga... read more
Great atmosphere – In screech for something different then the usual bar food found around the ball park, we decided on stopping at JTs for dinner before taking in a Tigers game. The service was good and everyone seemed to enjoy there dinners. I settled on having the fish and chips which was very good. After having a couple 22oz brew beers with dinner, I was to full for desert.
Ain't What is Used to be! – I used to be a TJ's fanatic... couldn't go more that a week without a visit. Now after more than half a dozen disappointments, I'll probably never go back. Somewhat acceptable vegetarian fare, $20 rubber steaks, decent desserts and awful service.
Overated – Went on a class trip to TJs. Do not get me wrong the food is good. But it is nothing special at all. It doesnt taste bad but there is nothing special about it. There are no free refills on drinks, no fries come with the sandwiches. My sandwhich cost $8.00 and was small and didn't taste like anything spectacular. This place is extremely overated. The inside is plain, and the decorations are corny.
I HAVE VISITED THIS RESTAURANT WITH A LARGE GROUP, MY FAMILY, AND ON A DATE AND THE FOOD IS ALWAYS EXCELLENT, SERVICE WITH A SMILE BUT NOT PLASTERED ON, ATMOSPHERE IS NICE AND ROMANTIC BUT NOT SO DARK YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR FOOD. IT'S WHAT YOU WANT.
Next on "When good restaurants go bad" – I've been eating at TJ's since I was too young to drive there. It used to be a wonderful place, great good, great service, great management etc. I've been there 3 times in the last month and each and every time was a bad experience. The food is nowhere near where it was a couple years ago. Service? What service? Each visit we had a different member of the waitstaff, each aparently firm in their knowledge that you're there for their benefit. Price? HIGH. $35 before tip for a light lunc... read more
