Fresh produce and gourmet frozen foods sold at affordable prices. – In Short Founder Joseph Coulombe started this L.A.-based convenience chain 34 years ago. A five star place to shop Wow, I love this store. When it opened in Alameda, it was the biggest thing to happen to Alameda in the last 50 years ( yes, change does come slowly here)! The produce is wonderful and I find that the flowers and plants are very reasonable and last a long, long time. Lots of great organic and healthy things to buy, but (unfortunately for me) my favorite things are the great wine selection and the peanut butter filled pretzels!!

So imagine my surprise when I actually realized I enjoy going to this grocery store. Helpful staff, the kind of food you're looking for, and one of the most efficient check-out systems I've ever seen (with no crackly intercom, a standard grocery store drawback). In addition to great selection and terrific prices (competing or better with standard grocery stores), there's always fresh coffee... read more

Alameda Trader Joes If you shop at Trader Joes, then you'll know how crowded it can get. Why not? They've got killer prices on flowers, healthy and hard to find treats and goodies, wine deals - basically cheap "gourmet" items for everyone. If you're in the know, you don't shop here after work. But... the Trader Joes in Alameda is actually a little bigger than the other two in the East Bay - and you know life on "the island" is a little slower - so shoppping here is actually kind of nice. A lot less frenzied than the other tw... read more
