I grew up in the neighborhood and vividly remember going to the Butera's that was previously in this space. I've been going to this Trader Joe's since I was a kid. My grandma, an old school Chicago lady (but very adventurous), absolutely loved this store! I've known several of the employee's for years and they've become like friends that I look forward to seeing. Terrific employees, great prices, delicious food!!
I just witnessed the most beautiful thing. The cashier rang up a customer's basket of groceries, but the customer's EBT (food stamp) card was declined. The customer was clearly confused and embarrassed, tearfully counted out $16 in cash from their wallet and started to pull items out of the bag as the cashier tried to manually enter the card number and called over the manager.
