About this business

Totonno Pizzeria, founded in 1924 by Anthony "Totonno" Pero, features some of the best coal-fired brick-oven New York-style pizzas around. Few places can boast fresher ingredients than the homemade mozzarella, sauces and toppings they feature here. In addition to traditional Margherita and Neapolitan pizzas, they have bianca pizzas (without sauce) and combination pizzas with a variety of toppings, as well as pasta dishes. Appetizers include salad, mussels marinara and calamari.

A Coney Island landmark in serious contention for the city's best pizza. – As the city's oldest continually operating pizza parlor opened in 1924, Totonno feels lived in and well loved. Awards, photos of sports stars and presidents, and newspaper clippings line the walls. The crowd's a mix of families, old-timers and curious city slickers. The coal-fired brick oven makes a world of difference, charring the slightly salty, airy-on-the-inside, crisp-on-the-outside crust and lightly browning the toppings on the paper-thin pie. ... read more

This is as best as it comes – I've tried every pizza place in the nyc area. Hands down Totonno's is #1. I only get the white pizza. No ricotta, just tons of garlic, great olive oil and the best cheese and crust around! Sorry, but anybody that gives Totonno's a bad review... knows NOTHING about pizza! p.s I'm going this Friday before the Cylones game!

Overrated -- Plenty of better places – I have to admit, being a native Brooklynite, I never got down to Totonno's until recently. As it turned out I wasn't missing anything. For all the hype and history surrounding Totonno's, it falls flat on so many levels. Yes the crust is thin (which is good), but the sauce was very runny and made the crust soggy. Except for an over abundance of garlic (too much in fact), there was no other taste to the sauce. The service was abrupt and rude...moreso than your typical Brooklyn attitude. W... read more

Heaven on a round metal disc – Don't eat at Totonno's if you plan on enjoying pizza anywhere else. You will be spoiled forever! The crust so perfectly salted and charred. The tangy tomatoes. Fresh mozzarella. Add the fact that it's cooked in an 80 year old coal-fired oven (one of only a few still permitted in New York City). Very friendly, family atmosphere... plenty of old New York memorabilia decorating the place will keep your eyes busy after you order. But don't count on waiting long: our pizza was on the table in 5 minu... read more

Perfect pizza – Yummy freshly-made mozzarella and a perfectly done crust add up to an incredible coal-fired oven pizza. I'd recommend the half-and-half pie on your first visit; that way you can make up your mind if you like the red pie or white pie better. I'm still undecided! Not much atmosphere or amenities, but you're there for the pizza anyway. The service was friendly and competent, contrary to legend. This place is completely worth whatever effort it takes for you to get there. Bring cash!

Great, but not the best in Brooklyn – Just visited Totonno for the first time, the decor was cute and the service was friendly; although my friends and I felt like we were in someone's kitchen, as the personal conversation between employees was loud! I had high expectations based on the other reviews. The pizza was very good, but I still say the best pizza in Brooklyn is found at Ciccio's on West 5th and Ave U. (Close to the N train)

The best pizza in the world, period. – For some reason, this pizzaria didn't seam to make it to the best pizzaria survey, perhaps because of it's location. But the trek is certainly worth it because it's simply the best pizza ever, ever, ever! Made from homemade sauce, fresh mozzeralla cheese, freshly made dough...the freshed ingredients, always. Old Italian style. This place has been here since before my dad was born, right down the block. Before the previous owner past away (current owner's uncle i think), it was only open... read more

Best Pizza in Best Pizza City – This is it. Better than any other pie in NYC. A true art form. I am amazed at how unassuming this little whole in the wall pizza joint is considering how utterly magnificent their pies are. Get here. It will probably take you an hour. Maybe two. Completely worth it. If NYC has the best pizza in the world, and Totonno's has the best pizza in NYC... better get in there.

Utterly awesome – What they say is true. There's a lot of great pizza in NYC (and some dreadful pizza too), but this is the best. It's a bit of a trek to walk there, but that just helps you build up an appetite.
