My elderly mother in law (who lives on ss payments alone) used her stimulus check to purchase a used dryer from Jim Clark @ Tommy's. She was told the dryer is guaranteed to work and that it has a 90 day warranty too. However, when my husband hooked it up, it did not work. There's a problem with the door latch. Mr. Clark told her that my husband must have broken the dryer moving it (despite the fact that he's literally moved dozens if not hundreds of washer dryer pairs without problem). I wished I would have known upfront about the $125 service call regardless of whether any work is done or not. This should be discussed at the beginning. I can understand a $50-$75 Service Call, but $125 is excessive. I can understand $125 if the call required over an hour of labor, but not otherwise. If you charge $125 for 15 minutes of work, do you charge $500 an hour for labor to do the repair? Nothing was wrong with the oven. The timer was just turned on manual. This was brought to my attention today. The oven you are talking about is a very old unit. With my experience with this type of unit, after checking a few things to begin with, I realized the issue was in the control. The control was set on time instead of manual. I reset the unit and it went to working. I showed all this to the lady that was present. I do not understand why you are really upset about this, since Tommys Appliance saved you alot of money.
