Alternator failed before we hit ten hours. Called support and they sent me two shop numbers, one won't work on it and the other number didn't work. Installer is booked out months. They refuse to send us the part to self install. Pretty weak.
Tohatsu pull start failure in less than two weeks, the rope will not retract. Now I have to send the engine in for repair as per Tohatsu. This situation will hinder my boating season. I kind of wish I went with a different brand.
I have a 2019 Tohatsu 40 hp. Bought brand new in February 2020. My first motor to own brand new. Had heard good things about these motors. Chose it over a Yamaha. (My mistake). Being the proud owner of my first NEW outboard, made sure I broke it in using their guidelines. Made sure to winterize, etc. Even used Ethanol free gasoline plus a stabilizer. Last summer the engine started smoking when I would crank it. Made me think I was cranking my old 2 stroke. This summer it's doing the same thing. And now my starter has gone co... read more
