Horrible customer service, do not shop here. A few years ago I purchased a "Rare cinnamon" hamster for 50 dollars, the hamster was very deformed and had teeth and tongue problems until the day she died, she would go into dead sleeps and was nearly impossible to wake, sadly she died from apparent organ failure, this was heartbreaking because we did all we could to extend her life but in the end it was in vain, but because I like supporting local businesses I called in twice to inquire about getting a new pet from this store. ... read more

Business response:

Nadiv, we're very sorry about your experience. After speaking with the staff to review our customer service practices, I'd like to address a few of your concerns. As we've mentioned previously, our small animals are bedded on aspen shavings to avoid the negative affects of pine. These bedding materials look very similar so the confusion is understandable. Those who purchase ferrets are free to buy whatever cage they like after considering our recommendations. As for the rabbits and Guinea pigs, we also addressed this previou... read more

walked by today and was going to stop in to grab a dog toy, until i saw a poor bunny in the window living in a tiny box with 2 guinea pigs, on top of pine shavings. not to mention HUGE black flies all over the window. if you are going to be selling rabbits, while there are plenty of amazing bunnies in shelters already, then you should at least take the time to learn how to properly care for them! rabbits and guinea pigs should not live together for both of their safety. and rabbits should not be on pine shavings as it can ca... read more

Business response:

Amanda, thanks for reaching out! I read over your concerns and I wanted to take a moment to respond. First, we've never had an issue with the bunnies and Guinea pigs living together, but we're always open to learning new things. If you have information sources you wouldn't mind sharing, we'd be happy to read them. Second, you are absolutely correct about pine shavings. That's why we use aspen shavings, but they do look similar. Finally, yes, we do have some big flies running about. A vial of feeder flies came in a delivery b... read more

The best owner and staff around. We love our fabulous Bearded Dragon, who was obviously lovingly raised here. We love the care and attention we get and how Barb kept us posted on our boarded Beardie when we were out of town (my 6 year old was heartbroken to leave him behind, but Barb was kind and sent text updates!!). We could go to big box stores, but why? We certainly will never get the care and personal attention there that we get at #theefishbowl.

Thee Fish Bowl is a funky and fun pet shop. I call it "The Fifteen Minute Zoo" because parents of young children like to bring them in to look at the animals. There is a giant tortoise named Betty who roams the store at will. There are two cats who live in the store. They sell fish, reptiles, small mammals, birds. They sell the supplies you'll need, also dog and cat food and accessories. They do adoption events for local rescue groups with cats and dogs. Thee Fish Bowl is a landmark in Evanston - don't miss it!

I adopted one of their rescue dogs a few years ago and he has been so amazing. I bring him into the store at least twice a month and the staff all remember him and know him by name. He has some sensitivity to food and while the first girl i talked to wasnt sure about which food to recommend she went and got someone who did. The second woman probably spent 45 min listening to me list off all the food I've tried and before she gave me a variety of food that she thought would work for my dog. He loves it and hasnt had any issue... read more

I have never been so blatantly ignored at a business in my life. I asked numerous questions only to have the lady behind the counter look right at me and choose to ignore me. They refused to take any of the animals out to show them. The customer service was the worst that I have ever experienced and if this is how they treat customers , it's a miracle that the doors are still open. Get over yourself and help the guests that come into your store.
