The four-star Westin River North Chicago, once a Hotel Nikko enterprise, retains but a spark of its original Japanese flair. Rooms are spacious and modern and really are not all that special for the price until you sit down on the bed. The famous pillow top beds might make it extremely hard to wake up in the morning. Location is hard to beat! Great view of the honeycomb and the river. Staff has been so lovely. The room is reasonably quiet and our (upgraded?) room was spacious and lovely.
They bully you into a $25 junk fee when you arrive in addition to what you agreed to online, because at that point you are there with your bags and not in a position to say no. It's unethical and disrespectful. The fee nominally pays for several things but these things are either 1. Customarily free in hotels (the gym, the Wi-Fi), 2. Not available (the personal trainer, supposedly there is one but no availability), or 3. Inflated (breakfast for two is at least $25 over what would be a premium price elsewhere).
