Beautiful on the tour, miserable to actually live in. I've lived here three years and I'm leaving the first chance I get. This building shows beautifully and sells you on the amenities: library, game room, pool, courtyard, on-site restaurant. What they don't tell you is that those amenities increasingly aren't for you, the resident paying to live here. I've lived at The Vanderbilt for three years, and while there are aspects of the property I enjoy, prospective residents should know that the building often feels like an event venue first and a residential building second. Many of the amenities that attracted me to live here are frequently unavailable because they are rented out for private events to people who do not reside in the building which can be frustrating considering the premium rent residents pay. Our experience living here has been terrible. We moved in 7 months ago into a two bedroom apartment and since then we have had serious leaks from both of our bathrooms. The latest is so significant that the water was seeping up through the floorboards (picture attached). This has required the master bedroom bathroom and closets to be sealed off (photo attached) while repairs are done-- repairs which are taking weeks to address and which render the master bedroom and bathroom unusable. Its a difficult place to review because it isnt fully a hotel. There isnt a restaurant/bar during the day so no room service. No normal services like bellman. They have a starbucks coffee machine but wasnt working over the weekend but do have a machine in the room (no cream). The staff were very nice and extremely helpful when we needed them. Rooms are spacious and clean. Our room had a door inside connecting to the next room and they were loud one morning. better insulation or a double door would solve. The blackout curtain... read more
