About this business

Billing itself "A Garlic Restaurant", this North Beach favorite is a local's guilty pleasure. Although the Rose primarily caters to curious tourists, most San Francisco residents have popped inside for a dose of garlic-infused sustenance at one time or another. The 40-Clove Garlic Half-Chicken is a favorite, as is the Roasted Rabbit with Pancetta and Veggies. Lots of classic garlic dishes such as pastas, pizzas and appetizers are also available. Certainly a place where you shouldn't forget those mints!

Garlicky Good Yum - a garlic lovers dream! The Stinking Rose is located in the Italian North Beach district in SF. My husband and I rarely get a night out in the city, so we were excited to try this restaurant we had heard so much about. We had to wait quite a while, but we enjoyed the homey feel to the restaurant. He ordered the 40 clove chicken and I had a pasta dish. Both were delish (a little bit greasy, but still quite good). I'm glad we had a day to recover the next day before going to work so we had time to sweat out ... read more

avoid meat loaf I know this place is extremely popular with the locals and has grown to be a hot spot through word of mouth. The trendy name must help, too. I liked the taste of the dishes that were more starchy like garlic potatoes, mashed potatoes, bread, etc. But, the meat loaf that I ordered was not very appetizing at all. It was just mushy and tasted like there was too much filler stuff besides meat. I recommend the garlic chicken, that was a hot item at our table. PROS: good for dates or groups CONS:

must love garlic The Stinking Rose A Garlic Restaurant is one of the most unique restaurants I've ever been to. It has Californian-Italian cuisine with GARLIC as a serious component in the dishes served. Try the BAGNA CALDA their signature dish. Oven roasted garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil and butter served in a piping hot iron skillet -great on the fresh crusty Italian bread. Everything from to Garlic Biscotti to Garlic Ice Cream. everyone loves this place

Ridiculous fad I just don't know how this became so popular. A bunch of alternative ways to cook garlic with various foods is not a cuisine. My roommate worked there for years and obviously ate there 4 or 5 times a week. He just reeked of garlic. He couldn't get a date for years. I have eaten there a few times and each time I thought the food was not the best. It just wasn't very nice. Locally this place is regarded as a tourist destination. I wouldn't bother with it if I were you. PROS: They have food. CONS: The food is cra... read more

Great Italian Food Oh my goodness...I love their food and they definitely use a ton of garlic. The atmosphere is calm but their decorations are the wine holders with wax streaming down and garlic everywhere. It is really fun and they pasta and bread are amazing. The best is that it is in little Italy which is a really romantic spot so definitely go on a date. It is a little expensive but so worth it.

Yummy food Excellent restaurant. Very clean. the food was amazing and very flavorful. The servor helped us to pick our meals. I would go back just because of his hospitality. He was amazing and the food was perfect. the only problem with this place is that it took us 45 minutes just to find a parking spot. But it was definitely well worth it.

Stinking Rose is the best ever! Went to San Fran on business several years ago and ate here and came home to Seattle raving. Planned a trip this summer with my son just to go here!!

Garlic Lover's Paradise The Stinking Rose is a garlic lover's dream come true. This restaurant bills itself as a garlic restaurant and proudly proclaims, "We season our garlic with food!" The restaurant serves California-Italian cuisine made, of course, with lots and lots of garlic. Menu items include lots of seafood, meat and pasta dishes. For dessert, try the famous Gilroy's Garlic Ice Cream with caramel mole sauce, courtesy of the Garlic Capital of the World, Gilroy, California. The menu features items in a variety of pri... read more
