Feel extremely lucky to have the staff and facilities available to us publicly. Even when the ED is very busy, and the wait for care is long, staff are responsive and the care is always of a very high standard. All three of my children have attended this hospital at different odd hours of the night and day and we’ve always been so appreciative and grateful of the high quality care we have received.

Came with my 4 year old who had a high fever and seizure for the first time. Directions on the website said to bring in urgently - So we did. The maximum wait was quoted on the screen when I arrived was 2.45 min. 3 hours 50 min later not one person came by to check on us. When I asked how long it would be they said - soon but don’t know. I saw the screen had changed to 4.5 hours. The waiting room was practically empty as well. The cleaner was mopping around us and hit my feet with the mop as though we were in the way. We are so blessed in Melbourne to have one of the best children’s hospitals in the world. All the staff, Doctors and nurses, are so caring, wise and professional, I could not have asked for better care for my son. Everyone has so much compassion, and lightheartedness, they really help to make it the best possible experience for both the children and the carers, out of what is usually, unfortunately, a very bad experience. I’m really disappointed with the experience at the children’s hospital. We had to wait over 5 hours to be seen, which is extremely stressful when you’ve got a sick child. What made it worse was watching several nurses standing around chatting and laughing while so many families were waiting for help. I understand hospitals can get busy and there are emergencies, but when staff appear more focused on socialising than supporting patients, it feels like families aren’t being taken seriously.
