Great traditional steakhouse – I have been to Angus Barn plenty of times, but I think Peddler does a far better steak. Also, I prefer the ambiance of Peddler to Angus Barn. Yes, it's small and quiet, but that's why we enjoy it! The salad bar is excellent, and my father (a vegetarian) will often accompany us and raves about the salad bar! Overall, it's a steakhouse devoted to a nostalgic era. I think bringing the check up to front is kind of cool! As for the swinging doors and small bar, we sat one time in front of those door... read more
Wonderful Dinner – My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner tonight at the Peddler (our first visit) and we could not have been more pleased. Our waitress was top-notch and very attentive. The food was absolutely wonderful. We both had the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection and the salad bar had everything you could possibly want. They kept it very well stocked at all times. The bread was the only item that wasn't absolutely stellar... it was just okay, but really, we were there to enjoy the steak. As some of... read more
Good Steak & Dessert - But Little Else – We recently went here for our anniversary, having never set foot in the door. We had a couple of positive recommendations, almost entirely from the parents or grandparents of friends. The Peddler certainly does a good steak - I had a filet, and my husband had the prime rib. But almost every other element to the dining experience was mediocre... or a little strange. This is a small, aged venue. The low light was nice, but looking up offers a view of a dingy dropped ceiling. It was fair... read more
Outback Prices, Angus Barn Quality – There's certainly a reason why this restaurant has been in business for as long as it has; good quality, good prices, good service. The salad bar, which is included with most every meal, is my favorite in town; expansive and somewhat exotic choices like fried oysters, artichoke hearts, real bacon and homemade salad dressings are worth your time. I've tried almost every cut of meat and type of fish that the restaurant offers, and I have been delightfully impressed with each and every meal ... read more
Good Steak, but.... – Cooking a Good Steak is not a Big Deal, just about anyone can do it with a good cut of meat. We made our first visit to Peddler's this past week as a group of 10, to celebrate my In-Law's 50th Anniversary. The first thing I noticed while being ushered to a back room was that the place smelled like an old Diesel Submarine (really). And I didn't think that the building was that old. Thought maybe it had been heated with fuel-oil at one time. The interior was drab at best...in dire need of a major remodel.... read more
FOOD ALLERGIES BEWARE! – This is one of Raleigh's older and more established restaurants that has been around for some time now. The decor is a bit outdated, however they serve a DECENT steak if you are looking for a change of the chain choice-grade steakhouse (Texas Roadhouse/Longhorn, Outback, etc.). The peddler will come around to your table, show you the cuts of steak that are available and carve it right there for you. Then they'll take it and cook it on a small grill which is (thankfully) open to the dining area. Yeah,... read more
Absolutely wondeful – Its Valentine's Day and my expectations are just so so. As a midwesterner, I find it very sad that noone knows how to prepare prime rib. After searching for 23 years for a half way descent prime rib, my search is over. The Peddler's prime rib was excellent, along with the service, atmosphere and fresh salad bar. Even though I live in Chapel Hill...the ride into Raleigh to eat at this restaurant is worth the trip!
Old School Steak House This is a Raleigh landmark. It's one of the few places where you get to see the beef before it's cooked and you get to chose how big you want it. The service is great. The salad bar is small but really did you come here for the salad?
Long time favorite. Some good things never change. – The Peddler is a long time family favorite. We have been there for lots of special occasions and enjoyed many, many dinners for years. We always find the food and service to be superb. Love...Love... the fresh, choices of salad makings on the bar and the steaks are tender and full of flavor. Time to time, we try the new places that pop up, some are good and some are not, but we always find our favorite is still The Peddler. Some things never change, because they don't need... read more
