The Palm Restaurant is one of the oldest, family-owned, white tablecloth restaurants in the United States. Original started as a New York City steakhouse in 1926, it has since grown into a restaurant chain of over 25 restaurants. The name, Palm, originated when the proprietors obtained a business license. They wanted to call it Parma, but because of their Italian accents, it translated into Palm. The restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine and offers specialties, such as chicken scallopine, veal martini, pork chop malfata ... read more

User review by adross1 – This place - like every other famous NYC steakhouse - has its gimmick. This place's gimmick is cartoon characters on the wall of 'true' regulars. This place is SMALL. You are right on top of the people next to you. The waiters are a mixed bag. Some are well experienced and have been there for years. Others are quite green and very unsure of themselves - you can almost hear their greetings and responses come from a script they have been taught. The food is on par with other steakhouses but is by no me... read more
Consistent Disappointment – I've been there many times with business functions, guests, etc. Each time, they prove to you that if you know nobody, you are nobody. You'll need your picture on the wall to get any respect from the old, snobby waiters. The food is ridiculously priced and very mediocre. And, if you or a guest only wants a 3 lb lobster, forget it, thats too small (read: too cheap) for them to serve. I've never spent $800 for a party of 6 and felt so dissatisfied, and cheated...
definitely overrated – a $60 steak better activate every tastebud in my mouth. sadly my 20+ ounce porterhouse had LITTLE taste. furthermore, not a single steak was prepared as we had ordered it. Half my steak was medium well, part medium rare, part medium. but perhaps what left the worst taste (and aftertaste) in our mouths besides the over one hour wait for our food was the hefty $600 bill for our party of 7. was i full? yes. satisfied? not in the least.
aingl – Fantastic steakhouse. Have never been dissapointed. Want a great steak in THE quintessential NY steakhouse? This is the place. Some might consider it expensive--fact is that it is but on par with the other NY steakhouses.
History attracts a staunch following to this flagship restaurant in the legendary chain. – The Scene Caricatures adorn the walls of this famous 1926 steakhouse--two labyrinthine stories of dark wood, faded paint and closely packed tables. Regulars, some of whom have been coming for decades, consist mostly of business diners and families who love the place for its atmosphere and doting waiters. The Food This location is the flagship of the international chain. It's the original and ostensibly the only one that still uses dry-... read more
For Steak and Lobster – Palm may serve other foods, but the only thing you should order here is steak or lobster. Having eaten at the major steak houses, Palm is still my favorite. Not cheap, not for models, not for delicate cuisine. This is hearty steak and lobster, perfect every time. Save up and give it a go.
great food, low atmosphere – I came here for the food! Awesome clams oregenata, a porterhouse of 28 oz. that hit the spot, very god, not the best, but up there. Dessert berry tart, sweet and perfect. Also my family had the filet, a 5lb lobster and sides of spinach, aspargus, potaoes. Ambiance is old, and not my style, but its an institution in NY, Im not gonna change it. A little corporate but, hey like I said I went there for the food.
Overrated – I had heard how great this restaurant was. Food was mediocre and very overpriced. I would definately not recommend this restaurant.
You can't beat it! – We visit Palm once a month. It is consistently superior to ANY steakhouse in NY and we've been to many. Ruth's Chris pales in comparison. The app's are great- chopped salad, calamari, french fried onions (my favorite). The filets are big enough to share, and are always moist and juicy- not greasy at all! For sides, the best is the creamy mash potatoes and spinach! If you can handle it, try the desserts too- they are wonderful. The food is unforgettable and you will be anxious to return!!
