The Palm

About this business

The Palm Restaurant is one of the oldest, family-owned, white tablecloth restaurants in the United States. Original started as a New York City steakhouse in 1926, it has since grown into a restaurant chain of over 25 restaurants. The name, Palm, originated when the proprietors obtained a business license. They wanted to call it Parma, but because of their Italian accents, it translated into Palm. The restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine and offers specialties, such as chicken scallopine, veal martini, pork chop malfata ... read more

Unwanted extra ingredients in our food – Upon walking in, we were assaulted with a strange smell of the place, like moldy, musty wet carpet. We were seated on the first floor by the waiter station so it was a bit hectic and noisy. We ordered from the restaurant week menu--the salmon filet was a very large piece but bland. The filet mignon was melt-in-your-mouth-like-butter wonderful. Our dining experience was marred by the following--I found a piece of metal some metal wire at the bottom of my watermelon salad appetizer and ... read more

There is no place like the original.... – Giant lobsters, huge steaks but so much more. Most newbies order steak or lobster with the usual sides and iIt is expensive. But... The Palm is also a great old style Italian joint. Delve a little deeper into the bill of fare. They will make you just about anything you want and if it's good enough it may end up on the menu. Not the kind of place for the "dandified" crowd. If you want the waiter to introduce himself and recite the specials you will be disappointed. A manly place (and ... read more

An Era that never dies. – With nostalgia cartoons painting a history landscape on the surrounding walls and authentic 1950’s style of gentlemen service, this restaurant is worth every penny. Not only is it a historical valued landmark, its meals rival the finest that New York has to offer. I had a 16 ounce female Lobster with the roe still inside married to a delightful Filet Mignon (aged beef) that melted gently against your taste buds to the point that you would lean back with closed eyes into a bliss of wonderment. Think ... read more

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STEAKHOUSE – I've been a patron of this terrific place for years! It is absolutely my very favorite place! My husband and I bring friends, family and clients who we want to impress with yummy steaks and seafood. This is THE place where you can relax and enjoy fresh, high-quality food (better than your mom's). The wait staff bends over backwards to accomodate you and your guests. The maitre'd, Al, is the perfect host and always manages to entertain you while he ochestrates the hundreds of patrons who freq... read more

DEEELISH! a MANS restaurant!! – I finally went to the Palm to see if it could really live up to the reputation that it seems to have on so many new yorkers. AND IT DID 100%! Both my boyfriend and I work in the food and beverage industry..and have worked in various new york restaurants, so we know great food when we see it. and eat it!! he ordered the 28 ounce porterhouse steak..and i swear to god his eyes lit up when the old (and very unattentive) waiter brought it out. i ordered the 2 lb lobster because i knew i wouldnt be ... read more

Nostalgic – Not the best place for steak anymore but damn good anyway. Go for the lobster - its monstrously large. Service is great and the restaurant is small and cozy.

Classic NYC – When entering the Palm restaurunt you are brought back to the feeling of classical, warm, old New York. The walls are covered with classical drawings of the worlds famous, and the floors are wood and have been walked on for over 75 years. The prices are average and are what is expected of this type of NYC rstaurant. The service was on point, and peaceful. Me and my partner had salad and soup for apps., both were fresh and full of taste. For dinner we ordered steaks that were cooked the way we requested, were ho... read more

Shocking disappointment – I have been to various Palms over the years at the various NYC locations as well as the Palm in Vegas. I hadn't been to the original in several years and I am glad. The medium rare fillet was overcooked/overcharred. The pink portion was not juicy and bland. Overall, a shocking disappointing.
