we made our first visit and weren't impressed. They were out of apples. it looked as if their apple trees were dead.
I had a great weekend at Altapass Orchard. The weather was cool and foggy but it was a warm, bright, fun time inside the barn building. Great clogging by the Cole Mountain Cloggers, 4 great bands, lots of fun, friendships and dancing. Delicious things to eat, good apples to pick, the fog did not stop the hayrides. They are only open a few more weeks (I think through the first weekend of November) so hurry there to get your apples and listen and dance to music. I highly recommend this place. Fun time, the orchard is on the top of a mountain, live music and dancing. We had a blast and will be back.

This is literally the worst apple orchard I have ever been to. It is overgrown, disorganized and the apples are all misshapen, insect eaten and ugly. Unlike any other you pick orchard I have been to, you must pay for their ugly little apple before you can pick them. Furthermore there are no clear signs labeling the apples and the map is inaccurate. Cute country store with awesome ice cream and pie.
This is an orchard located on the Parkway in NC. It is about 20 miles from our place in Banner Elk. Near Spruce Pine and about 50 miles from Asheville (your old stomping grounds). Beautiful place. Teresa Smith recommends.
We love the entire vibe here! Family from the moment you walk in! Super sweet, reasonable prices and so much fun! Our grandson danced the day away!
