I love this place. It is my refuge among the craziness! I love Mrs. Charlotte's fudge, the folks like Mrs. Wilma - staples in my visit, and the food - yummie! If you haven't enjoyed a good ole fashioned throw down - you've gotta get down with Bill Carson, the famous! I was taught to clog by this man - he accomplished huge task - I've got two left feet! Our 2014 leaf watching adventure would not have been the same without a stop at the Orchard at Altapass. Thank you, Bill and Judy for "saving the good stuff". We took a bit of that "good stuff" home with us in the form of delicious apples, jams, the sound of sweet bluegrass music and beautiful memories. Really disappointed with my last visit. Have been going to the Orchard for 15 years. Tried to take my children on a hayride last week. Was told the next ride was at 1pm. At 1:10, we were told we'd have to wait for a party of 7 who had called ahead. At 1:15, we still waited. Turns out, a Blue Ridge Parkway Trustee (or whatever the title is) is more important than the 8 paying customers (most of whom were Elementary School aged children) who all left after being forced to wait excessively. Sad.
Love this place
My mom and I drove up for the afternoon. Loved the music, apple pie, and the goals of this organization. A must do.
I tagged along with my daughter on a class field trip to the orchard. We had a great time. The kids had so much fun. They had some neat activities for them to do there. The kids listened and danced along to music. They got to peel their own apple to eat,(which were delicious by the way)! They learned about the monarch butterfly, and listened to stories about the history of the area while on a hay ride. I would love to visit the orchard again and bring my whole family. They would really enjoy it!
