I stayed recently at The Mantissa Hotel and it absolutely nails the boutique hotel experience. Stylish, comfortable, and right in the heart of downtown Hartsville, it feels like the hotel is part of the community - not just sitting in it. I saw a bed bug crawling on my bed during the second night of my stay. I immediately called the front desk to ask to change rooms and they told me that my room type was not available. I explained that I didn’t care which room type I was in, but that I did not want to sleep in a room with bed bugs. They did end up moving me to another room, but offered no other solutions or help. It was a nice hotel, but when I first checked in, I was given the impression that I got the last room available. I was there on business. I was put into a handicap room on the first floor as a single female staying there by myself. There was not a lot of room in the shower as it was stocked full of equipment for people who needed it. A great little boutique hotel in downtown Hartsville. Good restaurants in walking distance and the staff is great. Free parking in a municipal lot on the backside of the hotel.
