Statue of Hugh O’Connor, the ‘Red Capitan’ as called by the Apache due to his Irish red hair & he also wore a red coat in battle. He was born an Irishman but under English rule, which he despised. He chose to join a cousin in Spain in the Spanish Army as an Irish mercenary in which the hope was that Spain was going to help the Irish from being under English rule.
