About this business

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Florida Theatre was originally designed for both stage shows and motion pictures, and is now home to concerts, dance, plays, opera and film, as well as community-sponsored events such as lectures, private parties, conferences and corporate meetings. The theatre reflects the theme of a Moorish courtyard at night, with stars overhead, balconies, and trickling fountains. The building was restored in 1983 with state of the art technical equipment and seats approximately 2,0... read more

We saw the Piano Guys The show was great but we hated the Security people. We waited outside in line 10 min. To get wanded. My husband had to give up his favorite Swiss army knife he keeps on his key chain. There should be a notification when purchasing the tickets so we can leave our 1 1/4" pocket knives at home.

This is my 2nd visit in two months, and both times I have been very happy. I experienced "The Book of Mormon" from the balcony, and "The Jersey Boys" from close to the stage. I could see, hear and enjoy equally well from either location. Excellent venue!

Overall great venue. Not necessarily the best staff or best building or best views, but definitely in my top 5 in each one of those categories. My biggest complaints are about the people around us and not the Florida Theatre or the show.

We had a wonderful time visiting. All the staff were polite and the security check was simple but just enough to help with venue safety. I hope to attend more shows soon!

I love attending events at the Florida Theatre. It is an awesome venue that makes for an up close and personal experience with the artists. In recent years the quality of performers has been amazing! Thanks for keeping this beautiful Jacksonville historic landmark a vital part of the entertainment center for our city!

My primary complaint is with the security checks. I don't like being searched entering a public building and no, I don't think it's necessary or even legal to do so. I don't care for the guards up front, as if they are expecting someone to rush the stage. I feel like I'm in a prison theater, where no one can be trusted. Do they screen patrons going into Broadway theaters? How about entering Lincoln Center? Carnegie Hall? I've been to theater performances on three continents, and I've never been searched at any of them--other... read more

The theater is stunning in the architecture and acoustics, the only thing I would do is not make the trip there and back in 1 night. . We did not get back until 3am, but would do it again tomorrow.. The piano guys were awesome and I was thankful for the extra security. .
