The Gershwin Concerto in D was fabulous
My family & I have been attending Florida Orchestra performances for 20 years. They've always been stellar. Every single one. Unfortunately, that's not the case for the Holiday Pops performance held at Mahaffey this year. It was 49 degrees outside, and they had the air going full blast in the theatre. We asked the ushers and concierge about it. They said they were freezing also, but The Florida Orchestra had demanded the icy temperature inside; and the Mahaffey employees' hands were tied. My wife and I are long time season ticket holders and thoroughly enjoy the Orchestra concerts. Last week we attended the "Parrots + Palms" special concert which was a complete diversion from the classical schedule. It was great! And the audience really got into the action. My compliments to the special artists brought in for this performance and I hope that we can look forward to another Parrots + Palms evening next season.
We attended the Florida Orchestra's concert featuring Francisco Fullana playing the Sibelius Violin Concerto and Rachmaninoff's 3rd Symphony at the Mahaffey Theatre. We were absolutely blown away. The conductor and musical director (Michael Francis) gave excellent introductions to the pieces as well as the composers.
