Short story: Live somewhere else. Long story: I toured my unit prior to moving in. I asked the person touring me (a temp worker since someone was gone on maternity leave) if there was central A/C in the unit because I noticed a wall unit in the bedroom. I informed her that I will not live in an apartment with no A/C so that would be a hard pass for me.
