fun little restaurant While there's no real fat lady, this is a nice little restaurant that serves American cuisine. The service is kind of a toss up--sometimes everyone is super friendly, and other times they rush you through your meal and make you wait a long time. Other than that, excellent food!
Fat Lady You have to love the name. My parents and their friends have been patrons of this great little restaurant for years. Some of my friends and I went here one night for cocktails as we had free time before our movie started. It is very close to Jack London Cinemas. We met the owner he was a really nice man. We made small talk and he then gave a round on the house.
Old school... We came here for a "nice" dinner and were a bit disapointed (the interior is a little shabby). The crowd is really "old school" and so is the food. But given the location (near Jack London) it could be a good choice.
One of the best in Jack London Square... I really like the atmosphere, which is Victorian with lots of red velvet and old paintings. The inside is like stepping back in time to the turn of the last century. The food is definitely well above average. I would describe many of the dishes as comfort food with a gourmet flair. Embarrassingly bad – I'm forced to give one star in order to give a review. I attended an evening buffet with old friends - and spent $140. There was no silverware, napkins or even water. And this was a $50 meal. The only food was some breaded hors d'oeuvres and they weren't edible. No drinks were included - not even water - you had to buy it at the bar and it was Not bottled - it was tap. HANGOUT FOR OLD, BALD, FAT MEN PLAYING DICE !!! – I think you have to be at least 75 years old to sit at the bar. The Fat Lady has seen better days as has its owners and its customers. The last time I was there the place was almost empty and the bartender was rude and maybe a little drunk. So we left and went to another restaurant. A fun visit at Halloween and Christmas to view decorations - but thats all !!!
OWNER (Jerry) does NOT pay his bills – I have not dined at The Fat Lady Restaurant in Jack London Square of Oakland. This is a review about the integrity of its owner. I am a hard working plumber that provided a service for this business. I completed the job and was given the run around by management for 2 days in regards to collecting payment.
