One of the best north end places – Small and informal, you practically sit in the kitchen. A great selection of seafood dishes. Never had a bad meal there.
Best Calamari, Try the Black Pasta and of course the Lobster Fra Diavlo!! – Small, in fact, tiny... dining room can accomodate MAYBE 15 diners... they do not take reservations and it is CASH ONLY. The place is small, and there is usually only two people working the place, and one is cooking... The kitchen is in the dining room (or perhaps the dining room is in the kitchen?) an any rate, expect your clothes to smell like seafood when you get home... STAY AWAY – Very Pricey. Ordered the shrimp and scallops from the grille. GOT 4 very small bay scallops and 4 small shrimp. small salad for 24.50. what a RIP OFF. The service was slow and the waitress was HAVING A BAD NIGHT. CALLED to complain. One of the owners max at the harbor waterfront location did not even return my call. TOTAL RIP OFF. SAVE YOUR MONEY >GO TO MCDONALDS SAVE 20.00 AND LEAVE FULL NOT HUNGRY YOUVE been warned ..NIX THIS PLACE
Some nice dishes – The atmosphere of Daily Catch is not that great given the price you have to pay. It seems a bit dirty and over-crowded. However, there are two dishes really caught my eyes, i.e. the black pasta and monk fish. I think for regular pasta, you can get them elsewhere or cook it on your own. But, for black pasta, it's a must try. It's best with lighter sauce, such as garlic olive oil or pesto, not alfedro or marina. The monk fish was delicious. Pretty disappointing – Very standard food that you could easily make yourself. Pasta with seafood and generic red or white sauce. Or just plain seafood with generic red or white sauce. Service is very bad for such a small restaurant. And we were there when it was practically empty. Prices are very expensive and only cash is accepted. I would suggest avoiding this place.
No-frills local chain serves up fresh fish with an Italian accent. – In Short The Daily Catch's original North End location's cramped quarters ensure that diners can see its exposed kitchen. Serviced by one or two multi-tasking waiters, the room can have a frenetic feel at times. The fabled fried calamari, lightly battered and served with a traditional marinara sauce, is as good as advertised. Cuts of swordfish and tuna are simply grilled with lemon or sauteed with mushrooms and onions and splashed with balsamic vinegar.
SADLY DIAPPOINTING - Been sitting on its laurels for far too long – We went to the Daily Catch based on glowing reviews and were SADLY DISAPPOINTED. The Squid Scampi is ok but the squid seems not so fresh. The mussels in marinara sauce over pasta was the worst that we've ever had at any restaurant. The mussels were small, overly cooked and tasteless - probably previously frozen. Their marinara sauce was so bland. Even a jar of Ragu was superior! Real Italian Seafood – This is a real, honest-to-goodness open kitchen Italian seafood place in the classic North End tradition. No hoity-toity attitudes here, just delicious fish and seafood, fresh from the sea, served up piping hot. The Monkfish Marsala is my favorite-- the owner told me he invented it for his wife years ago when they were newlyweds! No wonder there's almost always a line to get in.
The Daily Catch is my favorite restaurant in Boston and I'm a chef! I love the seafood fra diavolo and Mr. Lee's tuna special, not to mention the obvious fried calamari, squid ink pasta and stuffed calamari over linguine. After spending two years in Alaska, the Daily Catch was my restaurant of choice the evening I landed at Logan airport.
