Considered one of the finest examples of Neoclassical architecture, the Baltimore Basilica is the nation's oldest Catholic cathedral. Begun in 1806 and completed in 1821, the cathedral was designed by Benjamin Latrobe, architect of the U.S. Capitol. With its six Corinthian columns fronting a grand portico, the cathedral resembles a Greek temple. Nine stained-glass windows fill the massive interior with light. Visitors in recent years have included Pope John Paul II and the late Mother Theresa.

This place of worship has much history and a must see. The tour was very educational and confirmed many aspects of my faith. I highly recommend visits to this Basilica for all, no matter where you are in your life. I felt much peace, comfort, and the Holy Spirit, the tour guide was great.
An assume historical site for both Catholics and Americans. It is America's first cathedral built under the direction of John Carroll and Latrobe as the architect. They wanted to have an non- European feel but instead feel American. It tastefully adored with few statues and alters. It also has several paintings donated by France. A remarkable experience!
In gratitude for the gracious example of the life of William Cardinal Keeler. Thank you,my dear cousin for answering the call to priesthood and for listening to the voice of our Jesus in carrying on the mission to restore this magnificent place of worship.
Such a beautiful, serene, place to be. We were lucky enough to arrive for noon mass. A very pleasant surprise to be able to celebrate mass here. Everyone on staff is warm and welcoming. The Basilica is just breathtaking and the catacombs are fascinating. Mass in the chapel there has to be a wonderful experience. Leave enough time to do some reflecting, no matter your faith, as there is much to see and experience. We didn't take a tour, our mistake, next time! There is plenty of metered street parking too. Don't miss this won... read more
