About this business

The Australian rests in a bad Midtown location where bar names change annually. Hopefully, it will last longer. Fair dink'em. It's worth a visit when trying to avoid Times Square and looking for something different in Midtown. There are no boxing kangaroos or didgeridoos to make the Australian distinctly Australian. Rather the Aussie brews, like Cooper's, and foods, like meat pies and tiger prawns, provide the connection to the land of Oz. The long wooden bar offers ample stools, but a tight standing area when busy, so run f... read more

Food came out fast. Kangaroo loin was good but in fairness this was my first time trying this type of meat so I'm not sure if it was just "good" or over the top. The kangaroo salad consisted of mostly chickpea...very odd. All in all, a great location, great atmosphere and delicious food.

I took my daughter here once. She took me back again on Fathers Day. The calamari is great with a Virgin Mary. The place does need some TLC, but all-in-all it's a great find.

They have pretty decent happy hour prices and it's never too crowded. You can also reserve the upstairs if needed.

Recently discovered this bar, and definitely think it is one of the better happy hour choices for Midtown. Great, friendly service, wide selection of beers, spacious, and great happy hour specials. Happy Hour deals have a solid selection of $4 draft beers and small eats. The sliders, mini meat pies, and nachos are all good. The calamari is decent too, and you can't go wrong with there wings. If you are looking for a solid Aussie beer try the Aussie Blond on tap or any of the three Coopers Ales they have in bottle. My favorit... read more

I bought my parents here during there visit from Australia to NYC. The Australian is awesome! I might be slightly biased as I am an Aussie myself living in NYC. But still, it was awesome. We got to meet the owner Matt as we knew one of his other family members from back in Sydney. He very kindly bought us a round of drinks.

Awesome place in midtown! Came on a Saturday morning with a bunch of friends to watch a rugby match and had a great time. Service was excellent (I forget our waitress's name but she was amazing). Food was very good. I had the kangaroo skewers and the sausage rolls. The kangaroo was very tasty!
