Perhaps the Best in Town The chef and staff at Terrapin are wonderful people -- kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and witty. And the food is amazing -- from the bar drinks right through the main course to the delectable desserts -- a meal here is an event and a special occasion in itself.
The staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is very nice and subdued. Plating on the dishes is very nice. The food is priced 3x higher than it should be for the quality and the regular menu is very limited. As for the meal itself, I had to take an antacid when I left it sat so poorly with me. All-in-all I hate to say this but i would give up my evening for a refund, it sat that poorly.
Being big foodies...we really enjoy Terrapin. Their portions are just right and their ingredients are always local and fresh. The staff is well versed in each dish and really understand complimentary wines. The tasting menu is the way to go. You will leave EXTREMELY SATISFIED. The only feedback I would have for them is to change their menu more frequently.
Excellent service You can make reservations through their website, but print out and bring copy of your confirmation with you because sometimes they can't find them. This is a great "date night" or "night without the kids" restaurant. Come here for a slow, romantic meal with quality, healthy food. We were very happy with the service.
The food was mediocre at best, and for the prices downright bad. The cheapest dish on the entree menu was $25, a vegetarian pasta dish with very little flavor and no special ingredients. The meat entrees we had were fine, but again for the prices they are charging one expects the food to be outstanding not just fine. The only thing we enjoyed and found appropriately priced (price/quality ratio) were the desserts. They do have a good pastry chef. Absolutely the best restaurant in Southern Hampton Roads. Chef Rodney Einhorn is second to none. His flavor profiles are amazing and the wine list compliments the menu perfectly. If you appreciate culinary artistry, than you must experience dinner at Terrapin Restaurant.
One of the very few restaurants in the area using products from local sustainable farms. Chef Rodney Einhorn and staff allow these products to showcase by using proper technique and simplicity.
