Great place to go, Mark and Jen have worked very hard clearing even more of the river this year. I have my own kayaks, and bring my family to the pond on a pretty regular basis. They're always helpful and friendly. I'm not sure why someone found them insulting and rude, I've not found anything like that in over a dozen interactions. Quite the opposite in fact, including showing me maps of where some of the deadfall was they haven't cleared yet, and pointing me to the USGS website that monitors water flows in the area.
