Tech Auto - not what they used to be? – I've used these guys a few times over the past few years, but it seems they are getting more expensive and less customer-orientated. I left my truck for a complete transmission overhaul, and was told to expect it Thursday. Well, still no word by the following Monday, and when I called for a status they weren't sure where it was! For over $2100 you might at least expect a call, but nothing until I called them. Next time I will check out the "Car-Talk" recommended repair shops.
Beware!!! – I took my car here after being referred by friends on Facebook. Boy are they embasrrassed now! I was not old of the recurring break-in problem in the lot and neighborhood, or that they leave the cars unlocked in the lot at night, since the burglars break windows. Saw a woman coming! – Dont be fooled by the raving reviews, they are probably employees and friends of Bobby. This shop is one of the biggest crooks in Houston. An inspection costing over 500 dollars one year was astronomical but it balooning to 1500.00 the following year for the exact same items changed. Time to report these sharks.
A Trustworthy Service Oriented Mechanic – I have been taking all of my cars (currently 5) to Bobby for the last 15 years. I refer ALL of my friends and acquaintances to Tech Auto because I trust them. Bobby is the best !
The BEST!!! – Been using them for years. Never had a problem.
Never take a German Car to him – His business model is based on taking as many cars a day as possible and turning them around within a day or two max. To maintain this high turnover, he does a very quick and dirty diagnosis on your car, fixes it and doesnt really care if the car drives the way it should.In other words, he wont do a comprehensive check up, just latch on to the first problem he detects, fixes it and doesnt care if the car drives optimally or not. Works on BMWs! Don't take your car to the dealership.... – Sometimes it can be scary (being a young, single woman) to go get your car fixed. But Tech Auto is in a good neighborhood (very good: Allen Pkwy/RiverOaks) and the people aren't scary or sketchy. Bobby, the owner, is as southern and honest about things as they come. He'll tell you if the repairs will cost more than the car is worth. (He's told my friend before). They're not a good place to go. – I just got out of there and they did the same to me (below). Quoted me an outrageous amount, told them over the phone I would get a second opinion. They parked my car in a non parking zone on a one way street, had to go all the way to Allen Parkway just get off the road. Will never go there again. It's funny, I'm pretty sure all the great and wonderful reviews below came from their staff to cover up a previous bad review.

WARNING: Worst Experience Yet – We all know mechanics can be sheisters, but this one takes the cake. They've got a rep behind the counter named "Pebbles" if that tells you anything. Don't be surprised if you find pebbles in your tires and water in your tank if you decide to go else where. They quoted me on a list of work, $2200, so I went to my normal and reliable mechanic who is much further away, quoted me $800 and my car purs like a kitten now.
