Biggest problem: I got charged $1.99 for three little slices of lime. That killed this place for me. First time a restaurant has charged for limon for my menudo. I dont know if thats a restaurant policy, or if the waitress tried to pad the bill, but it cost her great tip. Sometimes I leave a 100% tip if service is great, even if food sucked. She got 10%. I love this restaurant! The food is authentic, the prices are good, and it has a calm atmosphere! The hospitality I was met with when entering and leaving was heart warming. I’d like to add that they have the best quesabirrias in town! A friend took me here and now I tell all my friends about this place too!

Hands down one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in West Monroe and the entire Monroe / Twin Cities area. Taqueria El Jefe on Basic Drive serves the real deal — fresh street tacos, incredible quesabirria with consommé, and some of the best carne asada and pastor I’ve had in Northeast Louisiana.
