I unfortunately had her as my OB and it was a terrible experience for someone having their first child. To start off, I was having cramps about a month out from my dur date, called the office and they told me to come in. As I was in the office waiting for her, I could hear her telling staff that she didn't believe I was in labor and wasn't having a baby that day. Let's. not forgot the office told me to come in! I found Dr. Barlow to be friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. She took time to review my medical history, and she addressed my questions. I even received a call from my lab results. I enjoyed my experience and look forward to seeing the doctor next year.
I’ve been going to Dr. Barlow for years. I always feel totally at ease talking to her about anything, knowing that she will answer forthrightly and compassionately.
My first appointment was pleasant, but this appointment was terrible. I don't know if Dr. Barlow was having a bad day, or if someone upset her before my appointment, but it was evident during my visit something was wrong. I really hate to say this, but she very rude, short and condescending. I've never felt like that during a healthcare appointment with my providers. There definitely was no "care" in this visit. I recommended Dr. Barlow to others in 2021 after my first visit. In 2019, mynot OB/GYN in WaDC notified his patients that he was retiring in 2020. I decided to look for a physician in NC (my permanent residence) where I would be spending most of my time. After researching for OB/GYNs, I read about Dr. Barlow; her background was impressive and I stopped looking for anyone else. This was my second visit and I will visit her annually. She is exactly the type of physician that I had been hoping to find and meet my expectations.
Dr. Barlow is a caring, knowledgeable doctor. She explains what your problems and need options are in an understandable and functional way. I felt very comfortable discussing several issues with her and never felt she talked down to me as some physicians do. I highly recommend her.
I'm a widow for past 3 years and have now entered into a new relationship. We had a long and helpful chat about sexual things that was very helpful. She's. been through my cancer (twice) and more and I can always count on her.
