This place won Honolulu Magazine's Hale 'Aina award for "Best Japanese Restaurant in Hawai'i" three years in a row, and it's no wonder. The knife-wielding chefs are masters of the Teppan-yaki art and terrific entertainers to boot. The cuisine is prepared with only the finest and freshest ingredients. There are two other Tanaka of Tokyo locations in Waikiki.

Taking a little too long It wouldn't be so bad if they could seat your reserved party when others on your party is trying to find parking. Instead they make everyone wait until everyone gets there. Then when you're seated, it takes about another hour to prepare table, and fire up the grill. Don't go if you plan to eat at a preferred time as you always have to wait wait wait. You don't get filled after dinner, so get a second plan for the emal that will fill you up afterwards.
OK Benihana-lite – Took customers there (13 people). Made and re-confirmed reservations. Arrived on time. Still had to wait to be seated. This type of restaurant is dependent on the cook's attitudes. We had 2 cooks. One was very friendly and our diners on his side of the table had a good time. The other cook was very quiet, barely speaking a word. His side of the table drank alot.... My expectations were average...and this restaurant met my expectations. Nothing really bad..nothing really good...
