Specialties: Handmade one-of-a-kind and limited edition by over 60 jewelers from the USA, Europe, and Asia Established in 1989. Taboo Studio is owned by jewelers Jane Groover and Joanna Rhoades, former graduates of the San Diego State University jewelry and metals program. The studio was in downtown San Diego for 10 years and has been in the Mission Hills neighborhood for 15 years. Taboo shows four special exhibitions of new jewelry each year and welcomes custom work and redesigning of old jewelry.

Working with Taboo Studio was one of the easiest experiences I’ve ever had. Julie is an absolute talent, and the selection at the store includes other incredibly talented artists. I don’t usually review businesses but my experience at this shop was so personal, so genuine and fulfilling that it transcended shopping. The folks here are personable and maybe the last real jewelers in San Diego. I highly recommend Taboo for unique and custom jewelry, or just some good energy. So grateful for the experience. Julie Harris purchased this place a few years ago and it is so stinking cute! She has been doing jewelry for me for at least five or six years maybe longer I send a lot of clients there everyone’s happy. This is the place to be if you are looking for one o a kind piece's or have old stones and jewelry you want to rework! ITS WORTH THE TRIP IN!!!

Jane helped design a custom wedding set with my husband for me. It is beautiful and she really listened to what we wanted. We also got my husband's wedding band at Taboo and he loves it was well. We couldn't be happier with our jewelery, Jane and Taboo.
