I had such an awful experience with Sylvia Ybarra that it took me over half a decade to search for another long term therapist. She belittled and disrespected me and called me too sensitive when I stood up for myself. Not a safe provider for transgender individuals especially, even if she claims to be LGBTQ friendly. Careful!!!!!! She tried overcharging me for my sessions, I have a copay of $45 and she wanted $65 and the second session she wanted $100. Mind you this is AFTER she said she took my Anthem Blue Cross insurance. Then I found her on Yelp giving herself five star reviews. After that I felt like she was pretty shady so I told her I didn’t feel comfortable with her as my therapist and she laughed in my face and told me to leave, saying she had a large enough network of clients. I honestly feel like I’m talking to a wall. She is hardly engaged. I’ve been seeing her for the last two months and for the last month I’ve been dreading my appts with her. I have to literally think of what to talk about because for the most part it’s me talking. She’ll maybe say a thing or two the entire time. There’s no structure. The appointments are rushed.
