Sushi Uokura, located near the Colorado School of Mines at the edge of Lakewood and Golden, may be out of the way, but it is one of the most popular Asian restaurants in the Denver area. Consistently voted one of Denver's best sushi restaurants, Sushi Uokura serves nothing but Japanese seafood in a lovely, soothing atmosphere, complete with fountains, patio, and a tiny indoor koi pond. Take out is also available, but the dine-in experience is even better than the food. The chef is a nationally renowned sushi expert and watch... read more

A gem in the suburbs Price: $$$ ($4-6 per order and $7-12 per roll) Food: **** (4 out 5) Service: ****1/2 (4 1/2 out of 5) Ambiance: ** (2 out 5) Overall: **** (4 out 5) First of all the earlier review by Megan Q. is exceptionally difficult for me to believe. It smacks of an individual with a personal axe to grind. Even on their worst day Uokura doesn't merit the poor score given by Megan. Price: The prices are medium to medium high given the location and the overall dining experience (see ambiance below). Most of the nigri ... read more
Very Authentic I love going there for lunch for a truly authentic, well balanced Japanese meal, for example, the Sushi and Tempura combination.
Nice Neighborhood Place We get to Sushi Uokura about once a month and have not been disappointed. The hamachi (yellow tail) is always great. Specials like the tiny fried crabs are different from the usual fare and excellent. Rolls are predictable but the rainbow and eel rolls are always tasty. Service is prompt and pricing while a little high for the burbs is worth it in our opinion.
One of my favorite places in Denver! I love this place and I'm a sushi snob. There's one place in Vail that compares but besides that there's nothing better in Colorado! If you know and love sushi, give em a try you'll be hooked!
disgusting Sushi Uokura is disgusting and over-priced. I have never cared enough to write a comment about any restaurant in my life. I am easy to please! On the other hand, this is by far the worst sushi I have ever seen or tasted and I felt compelled to get back on-line to write about how terrible it is. It looks like a 3 year old made the rolls - there is a thick, inedible wad of rice on one side of the roll, and the nori shows through on the other side. The fish is greasy, and even the ginger seems old and grainy. It is ex... read more
I'd never expect this from landlocked area Sushi Uokura is easily the best sushi I have ever eaten. I'm originally from Texas, and we get a lot of good sushi down there. We are closer to the water, so I'd expect it, and when I moved here, I thought for sure the sushi would make me sick. However, this sushi is by far the best I have ever eaten. I really enjoy the Dynamite Yaki with calamari, and if you go be sure to try it if you enjoy a warm sweet and sour sort of taste to a food. It is very unique. Also give the eel a try. ... read more
If you're eating landlocked sushi, this is the place – I've had sushi in virtually every country I've visited, and Sushi Uokura holds its own against them all. Their rolls are large and generous, but I go for the nigiri and it's fabulous. I generally start with a nigiri plate (reasonably priced at about $20) and throw in a rainbow roll and some sort of tempura roll (they have several from which to choose). The ambiance could be more appealing and I'd personally appreciate a child-free zone, but the food cannot be beat. We ge... read more
BEST SUSHI IN TOWN – Anyone who complains about Sushi Uokura should put the crack pipe down. I was really hesitant to eat sushi in CO when I moved here 10 years ago. Sushi Uokura was the first sushi I tried and by far is still the best. Ogi, the owner is a highly skilled and accomplished sushi chef who trained some of the best in SoCal. Their food is fresh and excellent and a much better value than others like Sushi Den. The albacore sashimi is succulent, the salmon sashimi is like butter. Try the "Golden Roll " If you want ... read more
