Maybe the worst sushi I've ever had – Even the edamame was sub-par. I recently moved here from L.A., and had a serious sushi jones. I went to Sushi gin full of hope only to have it dashed like the Pacifac on a Malibu shore. I will get my sushi from Hen House before I return to the Gin. STAY AWAY!
Great value for sushi! – Sushi Gin is my favorite sushi place in town. Not because it has the best sushi in town, but because I can afford to eat there often. Sushi Gin offers a limited but good selection of sushi for $1 a piece, as well as a few smaller rolls for $2. While its almost impossible to get out of most sushi places for less than $25 a person my wife and I can stuff ourselves for around $30 total. The sushi is nothing fancy, but its simple and delicious.
There are better options – I would not recommend, there a better options in town. (jun's or sushi house) While there is no great Sushi spot in KC yet... the sushi gin is one of the worst. Service- below average ? I felt hat they were put out because we were there. Food- below average ? just not good
A must try – I have been frequenting Sushi Gin for over a year now, and have yet to find a better sushi place in Kansas City (maybe Kabuki). The selection is great, the service is wonderful and the prices are fantastic! I was scared to take my visiting friend from Japan out to sushi here in KC, but I took her here and she was pleasantly suprised! Got to love the one dollar nigiri pieces!
Finally found Sushi on the Plains – After having moved from Los Angeles to Kansas I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a good sushi restaurant in the middle of the country. Indeed, they are few and far between here (compared to LA). But alas I found a jewel among the prairies. Sushi Gin is an authentic piece of Tokyo with excellent food, nice ambiance and the prices are very resonable. The myriad of specialty rolls is more than I have ever seen in LA. I'll be back to the Sushi Gin again and again.
