I have the tacu tacu at the food cart every chance I get, plus the sauces... It's amazing. Yum.
I went with my boyfriend and his mother a few weeks ago and the food was absolutely incredible! I ordered the pork sandwich which came with mashed sweet potatoes and a red onion relish on top and fried plantains. It was the best tasting sandwich I've had in a long time! The food took a little while to come, but it was well worth the wait. I highly recommend trying the place out!
I'm hoping the restaurant was just having a bad night, but we actually walked out on Friday night. We were seated quickly, ordered drinks, but were then told that our food would be at least 45 minutes. When asked why, the waiter nervously explained that the food was prepared freshly, but it seemed more like he was hiding some other issue. There were only 4 other tables filled at the time. This is a tough one. I live in the neighborhood and I love Peruvian food and this food was as good as I've had. I had the chicken sandwich with tacu tacu and it was awesome. The chicken was perfect: super moist and perfectly seasoned. The whole sandwich was sort of a piece of art. It's clear that whoever is in the kitchen takes pride in their work and has the chops of a chef and not a line cook. The food is actually pretty darn good but the wait times are horrid and the prices are pretty high. On the wait times: ive been there when it was extremely busy and then again when we were one of only three dinner parties. On both occasions, the wait was inappropriately long. I usually dont write reviews, good or bad, and i'm pretty forgiving when it comes to restaurants, but i absolutely will not be back to Surco.
