Very disappointed – Wanted some Thai food last night, it was really cold out so I looked for something close, I read some reviews on here about Thai Thai II which is only 8 blocks from me and figured I'd give it a try. Most of the reviews were good. But I was really disappointed in the food. I'm a big curry fan, and I found the curry really mediocre, not that flavorful or appetizing. I don't eat out that much, so when I do, I expect it to generally be better than what I can make at home. My friend ordered the roast duck...it... read more
Mmmmmmmmm – Thai Thai II is only a few blocks away from where I live, and I must say I've become addicted to the Eggplant w/ tofu entree. It's heaven. The short lady who always works up front is nice. Seriously, give the Eggplant w/ tofu a shot, you'll totally dig it. The veggie rice and spring rolls and other goodies are great as well. In fact, just writing this review has convinced me I need to go there for the fourth time this week tonight.
Why is this place always empty? – This is such a cute, sweet little neighborhood restaurant. My boyfriend eats here all the time and loves their tofu soup. He's taken me twice; both times I've had a curry and both times they've been great. The owners are super nice and the service is fast. The yellow curry is my fave -- sweet, a little spicy, flavorful, and delicious. The vegetables aren't rock hard or mushy, but just right. And the prices are very reasonable. Stop by for lunch or dinner, I don't think you'll be disappointed... read more
uneven, but worth a visit – Not every dish at Thai Thai 2 is a winner, it's true. But when I lived two blocks away from this place I eventually figured out which dishes to get (pad kee mao, pad ga prow, pad prik khing) and which to avoid (any curries, most salads). And now I'm convinced that they have some of the best pad kee mao ("spicy noodle" on their menu) in town. Their prices are cheap, with even cheaper lunch specials, and the owners are sweet. It's probably not worth going out of your way, but if you're in the neighb... read more
Really, Really Bad – We decided to try Thai Thai II again because of its close proximity. Mistake. It has to have the worst tasting, most chintzy Thai food in Portland. The Pad See Ew was a brown lump of stuck together/broken noodles, a few pieces of broccoli and some burnt egg. The cashew chicken was a heaping brown lump of bamboo about a forkful of chicken with straight oyster sauce poured on it. For about the same money you could go to Chaba Thai... Oh yeah - even the Thai iced tea sucks and that's hard to do!
Really superb! – I ate here last night, and the food was just wonderful. I got a Thai spiced rock cornish game hen with onions and peppers, it was delicious. My friend got a yellow vegetarian curry that was fragrant, slightly sweet and very delicious. The veggies weren't overdone, either. The prices are very reasonable ($6 - $10 or so for entrees) and service and ambience delightful. Will be going back again!!
