I was referred to Dr. Mavec by my GP for reflux with the primary sign of chest pain. I made an appointment, filled out the history form, and went. He sat across the room the entire time looking bored, didn't even do a physical exam, said that it was just reflux and it was up to me if we did a scope or not (aren't you the physician?) he didn't really have a strong feeling either way, then spent 90% of the visit putting down my profession (also a healthcare practitioner) saying that we overcharge. I ended up in the hospital with severe anemia. Dr Young happened to be the gastroenterologist that was there that day. It’s a good thing that he was the one there, because he just had a way about him that talked me in to having a colonoscopy/EGD. I was dead set against it before talking to him because of fear. But he was just so kind and understanding. He did my colonoscopy and found cancer. I was staged at stage 4 colon cancer. It has been almost a year and I am at the end of my chemo regimen. He has always spent the time required to discuss my problems and potential treatment options. I had Barrett’s Esophagus and he used laser treatment to get rid of it. Over the years I have had multiple colonoscopies and endoscopies, and he has always been professional, but also fun to talk with. I would recommend Dr Brown to anyone.

In July 2007, I was admitted to St. Luke's South in Overland Park with abdominal pain. About 4 months earlier in March, I went to the same hospital with similar abdominal pain. The first time, the pain eventually went away and I was dismissed from the hospital after they administered an MRI and nothing showed up. The second time in July, another MRI was administered with the same results. If you want a doctor who’s office personnel will try to not book you an appointment if you had seen Dr Mavec in the past but had to see another GI because Mavec is booked 2-3 months out, this is the place for you. If you want a doctor who won’t listen, won’t run any of his own tests, barely asks any questions, offers no assistance at all and then shows you the door then Dr Mavec is your guy. I’ve been sick for 2 years, unable to eat because of constant nausea, and lost 30lbs in 6 months. Dr Mavec’s only advice was to ignore ... read more

I waited at least 60 days for an appointment with Dr Brown,who I have seen at least twice in the past, to discuss issues I have been dealing with for years. The only thing he did is listen to my heart. Everything else I attempted to discuss with him was disregarded. No test, no blood work . What else can I say? A complete waste of time and money.

My family goes to Dr Mavec. Because I have family history with colon cancer, I have had several colostomies. All have went well. Dr. and staff have always been kind. I recommend him to everyone I know!!
