There truly aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am for Strength in You. From the very first visit, I felt something special about this place. The only plus is that they are black providers with a private practice. The stigma remains the same and their treatment options follow that same pattern as a non-black provider. The hospital they are affiliated with Adventist White Oak; is full of incompetent nurses in training and they are short of staff. Leaving patients in this type of environment is a case waiting to happen.
I had a deeply disappointing experience as a fellow Birth Professional, with this practice and regret referring clients here. The OB–Midwife collaboration presented itself as supportive of doulas and patient advocacy, but in practice it felt restrictive and contradictory. Clear limitations were placed on doulas’ ability to advocate, including policies and hospital requirements that discourage sharing evidence-based information if it conflicts with provider recommendations.
