We went into a contract with Stanley Martin for a home that was already in early stages of construction. We made what we thought was a good deal for the price--$540,000 vs the original price of $569,000. We were told we could pick out paint colors, cabinets etc by the sales agent. None of that happened we were told we had to live with what they put in everything artic while. The worst part they swapped out cabinets in another house and installed our new cabinets. So I moved into my new home almost a year ago. Let’s not talk about the long delay, let’s talk about the kitchen and the concrete pour. At first the kitchen looked okay, even tho I realized very quickly that my last apartment had better quality cabinets. Now, after 9 month, the dark wood lightened a bit, I guess. The office reps and construction manager at Stanley Martin Homes with the Hitchcock Crossing development in Aiken, SC provide the absolute worst excuse of customer service levels I have experienced at any point in my life. From first try to charge $12,000 for an $800.00 purely decorative "upgrade", which took me three weeks of giving examples how that charge makes no sense compared to the cost of structure additions, just to have the office reps ask someone about it. I want to start by saying this review is about the Stanley Martin company and not the agents that I interacted with, both agents were friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. In my experience the Stanley Martin company, while presented as a “custom home builder, is not customer oriented as much as focused on profit.
