Editorial fromWith virtually every item on the menu named for a celebrity, from the Martha Stewart Chef Salad to the Pete Sampras Sliced Steak, the Carnegie's archrival has no qualms about bidding for the tourist dollar. But that doesn't stop locals…

Avoid this place – If I were starving and came up to this place I would rather die, And if you try to eat there you just might. You can't understand the wait staff as they try to hand you a filthy menu, at a dirty table. Best of all the pastrami is lousy. I could go on and on but I am off to Katz's deli for a real pastrami sandwich.......
DIRTY, UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE!! – Horrible customer service! My partner and i went for early dinner, good enough it wasn't busy, we wanted to sit by the window, Oh my Gosh, it was a big NO NO NO!! by the host, a short bald man, The reason why? Because those tables are for 4people only!! I'll understand if it was busy, but the place was just empty!! Even with the really bad attitude we got from that man, we decided to stay..We should have known better!! Trust me!! The food was tasteless but we didn't complain, we just wanted... read more
An Excellent Deli! – Please do NOT listen to people who rag about the prices at this place. Only two NYC eateries, the Stage Deli and Ben Benson's, are worth the prices they charge for food. Sandwiches are gigantic and fit for sharing, fries are thick and delicious (order with gravy), Dr. Brown's soda is always cold and good, and the cheesecake.....BEST IN NEW YORK, maybe BEST ANYWHERE. A slice can be shared among 5 people. The pickles are fresh and thick and crunchy. Yes, it is small, yes, it is always busy, but you are in ... read more
So Unbearably Bad - I would NEVER recommend!! – I went here on a random, rainy Monday night, and let me tell you - it was horrendous. "It" being the atmosphere, price, set-up, and especially service. I have never had to pay $18.95 for a freakin turkey sandwich - I don't care if it piled 5 layers deep with meat, it still is not worth that. Not to mention, that price only grants you the sandwich and a pickle - no salad, fries, or friendly smile to serve you. Our food came out at all different times, the waitress was terribly r... read more
Goooooood Deli! – We were in New York for our annual trip, and wanted some deli before catching The 39 Steps on Broadway. We've eaten at Stage Deli previously and this time was just as good! Our waitress was a wonderful demure woman who was attentive but not overly so. We split a turkey sandwich and green salad, and while the salad was typical iceberg deli fare the turkey sandwich was delicious. Very filling, and with the salad it was a great meal for two. We'll keep coming back to Stage Deli - recommended!
Awesome Food – I took my wife on a surprise trip to NY for her 40th. The Stage came highly recommended by several people. I can now see why. My wife and I had never tried Pastrami or Corned Beef. We ordered the Triple Decker combo. WOW! What a sandwich. We were not crazy about the Corned Beef but we LOVED the Pastrami. A couple of days later we returned for the Cheesecake. That was just as good. I can't wait to go back next time. Joey, Tampa, Florida
Get the Pastrami! – If you are going to the Stage deli, chances are someone has suggested it to you. And here's what else you should have been told, Get the Pastrami, try the Cheesecake and enjoy! If you are going there to have a quiet relaxing, non-touristy- lunch, then you aren't going there for the experience. We read about this place online and had it on the list of places to visit. Our driver also suggested it as it was in very close proximity to our hotel. So after a big day of sightseeing and working up an appetite we... read more
Awesome cheescake – Forget the sandwiches and go right for the cheescake at this theater district mainstay (you won't have room if you don't). The portions are enormous, by all means share. the meat in your sandwich migh be a bit dry and underseasoned. But, again, you go there for the CHEESECAKE, I always get blueberry but you can take your pick from an excellent variety. It's the best cheesecake in the world.
Tourist Magnet – I went here once and ordered a meatloaf sandwich. The prices are a little steep for deli fare, but that's to be expected, I suppose, of any famous or popular Manhattan deli (i.e. Carnegie, or Ben's). The sandwich was gigantic. However, the meatloaf itself was pretty bland. There didn't seem to be much to it, other than a bunch of ground beef and bread crumbs. There weren't any complimentary sides (not even a pickle or cole slaw) and the only condiment available to add any flavor was mustard. AND the sandwich... read more
