I'll tell you what if you're here for a short period you may enjoy yourself. It's beautiful here there's no question about that but this place does live in the 50's. If you're rich and white you'll have the best time in the world. If you're poor(dress poor) and/or a minority be prepared to get weird looks, negative comments, and pulled over by police. Good for short vacations bad for long stays. Good luck!
Parking on weekends is terrible.. otherwise fun and clean place to visit
Been to St. Joseph many times and I enjoy the downtown area and beach area. Parking can be tight but that's norm with the town being a tourist destination. Love the local shops and area restaurants. Took my friends here from the Chicago suburbs and they love it. A quick 90min drive is perfect for a day trip.
I love this lakeside town. It is clean, and very safe, and wonderful people work in their restaurants and shops. The Silver Lake beach has a nice concession stand, and there are actually life guards; so it is wonderful for families. I wish I could live there.
