This is classic, conveyor-belt medicine. Although St Joseph’s Hospital employs excellent physicians, the parent company, Health East, needs an overall ethical review: Both Doctors and Nurses are subservient to a commoditized Health Care model which emphasizes the use of lucrative technologies and over-scheduling, as opposed to individual, patient-centered care. I was referred to St Joseph's for my kidney stone. The nurse I was given to deal with for the 2 1/2 hours waiting for surgery spoke broken English, did not document ANY of my requests such as keeping the stone, my insurance information despite having my card, and ignored all requests for pain medication. It took the nursing staff FIVE tries to start an IV. As an army veteran, I have even started IVs on myself, so know that it was lack of skill rather than other factors as to why they could not keep the IV in the vein and kep... read more
