I attended Saint John of god nine years ago and had a wonderful experience. My second admission (the one I am reviewing currently) was a waste of time. The amount of funding that has been cut is extremely obvious. The lack of programs, the lack of NA and AA groups, majority of the rooms where groups are held are outdated, the groups are short and rarely discuss helpful information as it is mainly people joking around, the food has gone down hill, the nurses are the only good thing about this place but even then limited help ... read more

This place traumatised me from seeking further mental health care for 6 years after my first consultation with a psychiatrist here. I forget his name, but I recall him as rude, dismissive and he glossed over the diagnosis process while charging me what felt like an arm and a leg at the time. It took me years to finally try seek help again. I’m sure not every psychiatrist at this hospital is the same, as the other staff I interacted with were nice, but if you leave an experience with a psychiatrist here feeling invalidated an... read more

We were in the mothers and baby unit, they were good help with the baby but were horrible with mum, they even threatened to take the baby away when mum was having a bit of a bad day feeling down, very rude and would rather go karitane

For outpatients with delusional disorders, psychiatrists have long since established "depot consultation hours" in many places. Every two weeks, patients receive a sobering dose of reality there – often in groups and in a comfortable setting: Psychiatrist Finzen notes that the meetings for neuroleptics frequently create an "informal club atmosphere," and the convivial mood is "consciously fostered through the provision of coffee and pastries as well as the presence of therapists."

reception staff and specialists here are great, but the administration is atrocious. it’s a private hospital yet they still don't do escripts, which is a travesty. it's 2026- whatever excuse you could give me for not having escripts, I don't care. their booking system is also a mess. the specialists can’t even book you in themselves. you have to call reception and sit on hold every single time just to get your next appointment. the middle management here need to get their act together, clearly.
