Originally built as Castle's Red Barn in 1952 by MGM actor Don Castle and his wife Zetta, it was one of the original resort getaways for Hollywood elite. Legend has it that iconic actress Elizabeth Montgomery had her first marriage at the Red Barn. The property also has had incarnations as Catalina Palms, El Rancho Lodge and now Sparrows Lodge. Oh, Sparrows Lodge. You stole my heart. From the moment I checked in, I was in love. I stayed 2 nights in one of the poolside rooms where everything was perfect from check-in to check-out. The rooms, the staff, the food, the pool—all perfect. It’s 21 and over which is a huge bonus. The pool area is quiet and I’ve never felt more relaxed. It’s close to town too. This heavenly oasis may not be for you if you’re looking for a DJ pool scene, children splashing in the pool and a daily itinerary of activities. This is the place for you if you want to detach decompress and take in all the delicious smells of the gardens and fire pits. Tranquil and elegant.
