I just moved to the twin cities and I'm scrolling Instagram for some gyms. I ran across Southside bjj and sent them a message. They got back to me within the hour and invited me to a Saturday class. The mat space was the first thing I noted, they have optimum space. The instructor was very technical and he made sure to walk around to help people out. I was able to introduce myself to fellow students after class and everyone was welcoming. I plan on coming back as much as I can. This is a safe place to learn.
On 10/16/2025 I attended the adult no gi class. Coach Enrique was an excellent coach who was showing some leg attack work (something I haven’t worked previously). He took the time to help me get the technique even tho I was a “drop in” student. All the guys were awesome too. They were chill but enjoyed some hard goes at the end. If I’m back In Minneapolis, this will be the place I drop into! Thanks guys for having me, god bless!
This review is long overdue! I’ve been training at Southside for a little over a year now, and I couldn’t be happier. The facility is clean, and conveniently located in the metro area. The 6am class is perfect for my schedule, and every instructor I’ve trained with has been knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging — but most importantly, patient. Whether you’re trying BJJ for the first time or training to compete, Southside offers exactly what you’re looking for.
Awesome academy! Excellent gym culture and appreciate the rules they have laid out on their website, made me feel at ease knowing that they have intentionally set things up to be safe, respectful & welcoming. Visiting from out of town & reached out via their website and Enrique messaged me and gave me all the details, was very friendly and welcoming.
