We rented Lolas retreat on Tybee Island the week of Christmas. We were excited to get away for some quiet time and enjoy a new beach area that we had never visited. I will say right up front, that there was nothing wrong with the rental. It was near the beach and a great location with lots of room and areas to relax. However, my issue is we rented this “home” based on the pictures and listing and it was not what it advertised. This is a duplex. This agency has many other homes that are duplex’s and they list it as such which is why we did not select those options. We were very upset upon pulling into the driveway to see this was a duplex. The owner lives below and this is not a private home. We wanted privacy and selected this home because it met the criteria. We would have chosen a different home if there had been any mention or picture that made it clear that it was not private. I take great issue with misrepresentations as it speaks to integrity. We called before ever entering the home and were told there was not another option and that someone would call us the next day (Sunday). No one called. I then sent emails and left a voicemail during the week and they never called back. I could hear cabinets close, the microwave run, people talking all while sitting on our bed in the main bedroom. This means they hear us, if we can hear them. This is not private. When the agency didn’t bother to call back or apologize, nor correct the listing after two requests that they update the listing, I reported this to the BBB. Anyone who scrolls through their listings should be able to see and read that this is a duplex. If you know this upfront, then there is no issue. When you only show pictures of the unit and nothing of the front of the property to give an accurate picture, you are hiding facts. I will never rent from this agency again, because you cannot count on them to provide accurate information and they refuse to update the description so no one else gets the surprise we did, upon arrival.We definitely did not get what we paid for.
