This was my first time at the VA ER. I went in at 1200. The wait was long (about 5 hours) but that is expected at the ER. There were 3 people who came in after me and had a stroke while at the ER which extended my wait time. If the wait time bothers you take your candy ass somewhere else! I witnessed every staff member do their best for every person in the ER, even for those who complained about the service they were receiving or who already came in with attitudes. Intake was fast. Triage Nurses were very nice. My PA that saw me was knowledgeable, understanding, and supportive in my needs. Area seems a little run down, but they seem to be doing some work. A few of the workers were walking around just looking miserable so that’s kinda crummy. But overall I had a great experience when I felt like crap and just wanted to get in and get out!
The unprofessionalism that I just witnessed as a fellow healthcare provider was just unreal. I just left the ER and overheard two male nurses Making fun of the reenactment of what my client was experiencing to show them what I was seeing and why he was at the ER. Being in the hospital let alone ER is already a very mentally taxing experience for anyone, not just the sick patients. After being forced by the veterans crisis line thanks IRENE for the most traumatic experience ever. The ER was so terrifying that even though I'm a MST victim I was given a male social worker and left alone with him and then told by him congratulations your being held against your will, then got institutionalized and had to wait for another hospital to pick me up.
