Top priority should be the food quality and quantity served in the dining room. I have eaten there a few times last week and now I understand why my father is losing weight. Absolutely appalling. It is hard for folks to understand just how special this campus is. The staff is the best, You understand no place is perfect not even your own home, they care and are very loving. Some folks think it is toooo costly to live here. What is the price you put on stress free living? My wife and I are far from wealthy, but with the proms of care for life, even if we have no money. Save your miney. My mother was admitted to their rehab center, to regain muscle control in her legs, and except for the hour she was in PT, she was in bed. They gave her meals that weren't diabetic-friendly, and wondered why her blood sugar was out of control. She died in there, less than 3 weeks after being admitted. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!
Save your time, money and frustration......my parents lived here from the the opening in 1987 until their passing 15 years later. Wonderful place, always enjoyed visiting and dining experience. We moved in 2017 and from day one knew we had made a horrible mistake. Lovely grounds, beautiful interior in Gables West, but poorly managed by Brookdale. Meals were terrible....poor quality food for the monthly maintenance fee. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SOUTH PORT SQUARE!,
the place has potential if current management could be replaced they don't care about anything but covering their own backsides poor staffing poor infection control no supplies to speak of

I recommend South Port Square with reservations (my Dad has lived there for 6 years). Overall Independent Living is nice, with spacious, well designed apartments, friendly staff, and lots of activities. However maintenance is a problem - elevators stop working on a regular basis. As I write this the elevator in the G wing of Gables East has been out of service for over 2 weeks. And a recorded message just went out saying they have no idea when it'll be fixed - they're still "working on it.". One day last week the main elevat... read more
